Working at the institutional level, the University Registrar plays an integral role in strategic and academic plans across the University’s tri-campus system. The University Registrar is a strategic leader, convener, subject matter expert, advocate, and service provider for tri-campus registrarial services & systems, frontline services, student financial aid & awards, student records, academic scheduling & exams, accommodated testing services, classroom planning & technology, convocation and student accounts. The University Registrar:
- advises and consults with senior leadership on policy and planning decisions;
- provides tri-campus leadership and advice on matters related to registration, student records management, financial aid and awards, fee assessment, academic discipline and access to information;
- develops and maintains systems that support all functions across enrolment services;
- provides leadership and direction to ensure an effective service culture and create a positive experience for current and prospective students;
- brings strategic leadership to student services and financial aid and awards by developing policy and procedures for undergraduate financial assistance programs, ensuring that the communication and administration of these programs is effective and accountable;
- convenes and champions transparent and collaborative decision-making across our three campuses; and
- provides a coordinated and seamless approach to the University’s provision of the best student experience.
Sinisa Markovic has over 25 years of experience in technology and higher education leadership at the University of Toronto, including a decade of leadership roles within the Office of the Vice-Provost, Strategic Enrolment Management, where he has overseen registrarial systems and strategic reporting, as well as key positions in the Faculty of Arts & Science, the Rotman School of Management, and Innis College.
Sinisa is known for championing process alignment and inter-divisional collaboration, and is skilled at bridging the often-difficult gap between IT systems and business processes. He has led some of the University’s most impactful modernization initiatives, including the Degree Audit, Transfer Credit System, and Awards Management System. Notably, his leadership on the implementation of Slate consolidated more than 20 legacy systems into a unified platform supporting admissions, student success, and engagement.
Widely recognized for his collaborative and principled approach to leadership, Sinisa is deeply committed to staff mentorship and to cultivating a team culture that embraces experimentation and continuous learning.
